| Q: Can I plant a tree in the same spot? A: Yes. So long as the stump is not in an awkward location that limits a full removal, small (i.e. potted) trees can be replanted. By special request we can also grind deep and wide enough for a basket (calliper) tree. No other company we know can do this. |
| Q: Do you take away the stump shavings? A: In order to keep cost of removal low, we cannot take away the material. However, even if we could, we would not recommend it. The shavings are fantastic to be recycled as compost material and so we recommend you use the material in shrub beds or gardens. For lawn recovery, use 4 – 6 inches of soil to back-fill the hole. And don’t’ forget: make sure you pack the soil before replacing the grass! |
| Q: Do you have insurance? A: Absolutely. We have full coverage as well as WCB. |
| Q: Why can’t I simply rent a grinder? A: You can, but the rental grinders are only meant for very small stumps and grind a few inches deep and. In comparison, for the same price we can stump grind up to a 27 inch depth and remove any size stump. In addition, you would require a truck to pick up the rental and also be subject to paying for dull and broken teeth when returning the equipment. Finally, stump grinders can be dangerous if not operated properly. One could easily put a rock through a window, or heaven forbid cause an injury to yourself or a passerby! |
| Q: Do you rent out your grinders? A: No. Operating the stump grinders we use takes a great deal of skill and can easily cause serious damage to property or persons with inexperience. Our smallest grinder has a 45 pound wheel spinning at over 1000 RPM...not something for a novice! |
Q: What makes Got Stump? better than the next guy? Isn’t all grinding the same? Most companies perform what we call “cosmetic” removals, grinding the stump down a few inches, enough to cover up the remaining stump with soil and grass. Other companies won’t remove surface roots, leaving you with the labour of digging them out. Sometimes it is an equipment limitation and other times companies cut corners to get to the next job quicker. At Got Stump? we do all the difficult work for you, assuming you may wish to replant in the future. As for surface roots, we find they are fairly quick to do. So unless the roots are very large and extensive, we won’t charge for this service. We always strive to do it right the first time. And if you feel we have missed something, there is no charge for us to come back and make it right – even a year later. |
Q: Can’t I just poison the stump and dig it out later? I’ve got a chainsaw to speed up the removal! As for using a chain saw, any contact with soil will dull the cutting blade almost instantaneously. Equipment rental shops will tell you this and yes, they charge you for returning dull blades! |
|
Q: My stump is still quite a few inches/feet off the ground and my chainsaw is too small to go any further. Is this a problem? A: No. We carry a large chain saw with us for such situations. It makes very quick work of an overly tall stump and in most cases there is no extra charge. |
Q: We cut down the tree ourselves. Do you have a chipper to process the brush? |
